On Saturday, June 26 at 7 p.m., Guelph NDP is holding an online townhall meeting on safe drinking water in Indigenous communities. Speakers will include Niki Ashton, MP (Churchill-Keewatinook Aski); Sean Conway, Co-chair, NDP Aboriginal Commission; and Aisha Jahangir, Federal NDP candidate for Guelph.

Ms. Jahangir notes that “Six years have passed since our federal government promised to end boil-water advisories for all First Nations communities in Canada. The government failed to meet its 2021 deadline. Now, Guelph’s MP refers to ‘re-calibrating project timelines’ and ‘working on new project schedules’, but the Liberal government still has no realistic plan to fulfill its commitment.”

Ms. Ashton, who has been raising this important issue in the House of Commons since she was first elected in 2008, says that the Trudeau government provides only “empty words and broken promises”.

At the townhall, Sean Conway will provide his personal insight into Canada's ongoing neglect of Indigenous communities - including clean drinking-water - and how the NDP can advance community-based solutions where successive Liberal and Conservative governments have failed.

To register for the townhall, please go to www.ndp.ca/guelph or contact [email protected].
