VIDEO: Dramatic video shows Guelph police takedown of suspect on Carden Street

One officer and a suspect were injured in the takedown

One man is in custody with minor injuries after Guelph police used three cruisers to pin a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

Shortly after 3:35 p.m. on Monday a white RAM pickup truck was seen driving east down Carden Street, immediately in front of Guelph City Hall.

Dramatic video captured by passer-by Michael Gordon showed the events unfold.

A police cruiser travelling westbound squealed a siren at the truck, after which the suspect sped into reverse. Shortly afterward a Guelph Police cruiser hit the pickup from behind and two other cruisers pinned him from the front.

Sgt. Dustan Howe told GuelphToday after the incident that the suspect's vehicle, which had been reported stolen, was pinned by police because of it's a high-traffic area to avoid risk to the public.

Officers approached the vehicle asking the man to leave the vehicle, after a few moments the driver side window was smashed by police and the man was taken into custody.

The suspect was taken from the scene by ambulance with minor injuries.

Howe said one officer has reported a minor injury.

The pickup truck and three cruisers received damage in the takedown.

Police remain on the scene as of 4:30 p.m. to investigate. The west end of Carden Street was closed as a result.

GuelphToday will have more on this story as information becomes available.
