Toronto, ON – Mary Frontini from Guelph is celebrating after winning $80,340 from the May 10, 2017 LOTTO 6/49 draw. Mary matched five numbers plus the bonus number to win a secondary prize.
“I have been playing the same numbers for over 25 years,” shared Mary while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto where she picked up her winnings. “The numbers have great significance for me. They are all birthdays – my husband’s, my son’s and mine.”
The 64-year-old grandmother was at home when she found out about her big win. “I saw the winning numbers on the television. The numbers seemed so familiar so I decided to check my ticket. I couldn’t believe it!”
Mary returned to the store and scanned her ticket in the ticket checker. “I saw the amount and the words, ‘Big Winner’ flash on the screen. I looked at my husband, who was with me, and said, ‘I can’t believe this! This normally happens to other people, not us.’”
The reaction from family and friends was priceless. “Everyone said, ‘We can now say we know someone who won the lottery!’”
Plans are underway for Mary’s windfall. “I will be investing the prize money for sure. I always say, ‘Don’t touch a sum of money for at least a year.’ Then I can decide more rationally what I want to do with the money. Winning the lottery means more peace of mind and having a great cushion to fall back on. My husband and I are retired so we don’t get raises any more. This is my bonus for the future,” concluded Mary.
Since LOTTO 6/49 was launched in June 1982, there has been a total of 3,465 LOTTO 6/49 draws with Ontario players having won more than $11.7 billion in prizes, including 1,337 jackpot wins. There have been 425 Guaranteed $1 Million Prize draws to date. One hundred and eighty six of the winning tickets have been sold in Ontario.
