Guelph Symphony is celebrating the arrival of spring with a concert at the basilica of Our Lady featuring Brahms’ cheerful Symphony No. 2 in D major, fondly known as “Pastoral”, in obvious reference to Beethoven’s symphony of the same name.  The program will open with Wijeratne’s charming ‘Letter from the After-life’ based on quotes from Schubert’s Death & the Maiden string quartet. Wijeratne won the Juno for Best Classical Composition for this piece in 2016.

We are thrilled to welcome Conductor, William Rowson, the fifth candidate in the search for our next Artistic Director, to lead the orchestra!” said Catherine Molina, the orchestra’s General Manager.

Rowson has worked with orchestras across Canada and currently serves the Associate Conductor of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Music Director of the Stratford Symphony Orchestra. His compositions and orchestral arrangements have been performed by orchestras and ensembles throughout Canada, the US and Europe.

This concert will be one hour long, without intermission. Tickets will also be available at the door.
