Dejana Pogrmilovic says her new store Market Co. on Carden Street is a first of its kind in the city.
The fashion concept store is set to open it doors at 30 Carden St. on Wednesday, March. 27.
Pogrmilovic co-owns the store with her husband Dragan and says concept stores are happening in fashion districts around the world in big cities and it is time that Guelph opens its doors to one.
The store sells a unique selection of clothes, jewelry and shoes from independent designers all over the world and aims to sell an overall fashion experience to its customers.
Customers can look at different articles of clothing and can also sit down, sip an espresso or glass and eat some quality food in the store.
Market Co. has a range of food, including paninis, croissants, danishes and charcuterie boards.
It offers wines, draft beer, bottled beer and mixed drinks. It also serves cappuccinos, macchiatos, and frozen coffee beverages.
“Essentially there's an awesome crowd in this city and I think we all would benefit from something a little different," Pogrmilovic said.
She said she always wanted to study fashion but when she came to Canada in the 1990s her father said he couldn't financially support her dreams to go into fashion and so she went into business and still works in IT.
A few years ago when she started working with the shoe company Zeyzani, she started exploring different designers and really began to pursue her dreams of working in the fashion industry.
Pogrmilovic previously owned the fashion store Style on the Go on Woolwich Street.
She wanted to try her hand at a concept store so she moved her business to Carden St.
Each item of clothing in Market Co. is selected by Pogrmilovic and is from designers such as Inna Clothing from Toronto, DNK Studio from Belgrade, Pitusa from Peru and Miro Design from Barcelona.
“I only work with independent designers that are handcrafting everything,” Pogrmilovic.
All the shoes are custom made in Italy through the footwear designer Zeyzani. The shoes use different kinds of materials that even includes the silk used in the time of the Ottoman Empire.
“I could literally make a boot for you to fit you and to sit up perfectly,” said Pogrmilovic.
The store also sells handcrafted jewellery by Samuel Courax, an architect from Paris who designs jewelry using glass materials.
Pogrmilovic encouraged anyone interested in high fashion or anyone looking to sit down for a drink to come to the store.
