Seven members of Guelph's Speed River Track and Field Club have been named to Canada's Olympic team.

The formal announcement was made Monday afternoon.

Speed River and University of Guelph coach Dave Scott-Thomas will also be part of the coaching staff in Rio.

Athletes heading to Rio include longtime Guelph residents Taylor Milne and Eric Gillis.

Guelph native Andrea Seccafien, who trains with a Toronto club, had already booked her ticket to Rio.

Milne qualified in the 3,000 metre steeplechase after winning the event at the Olympic Trials in Edmonton Saturday night, as did runner-up in the event Chris Winter.

Anthony Romaniw's second place finish in the 800 m final Saturday guaranteed him a spot.

Marathoners Gillis and Reid Coolsaet were named to the team Monday, as was Hilary Stellingwerf(1,500 m) and Lalonde (3,000 m steeplechase), who both finished third in their events Saturday and had to wait until Monday to see if they were named to the team.

It will be the third Olympics for Gillis, and the second for Milne and Coolsaet.
