The Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington is putting a call out for help for over 300 families who are waiting to be matched with community donors for Christmas.

This giving experience not only provides families with seasonal needs and wishes, but also helps them to remember the magic of the holidays, giving them hope for a brighter year ahead.

“There are hundreds of families in our community who are struggling to provide even the basics for their children, let alone what they need to create a special Christmas,” says Program Director, Karyn Kirkwood. “The Adopt-A-Family Program works with over 25 social and community agencies to ensure children and youth have much-needed items like winter coats, boots and pajamas, fun gifts that the children are wishing for, along with grocery cards to purchase a holiday meal.”

Last year, Adopt-A-Family helped 1,175 families and with 979 already referred so far this year, the need is just as high.

Families referred to the program are in vulnerable situations which can include domestic violence, a newly split family, a family going through an illness, disability or job loss, a homeless youth, parents or grandparents that have taken over care for children in their extended family, and many more circumstances.

“When kids are in tough and stressful situations, they need to experience the magic of Christmas to remind them that there is still good in the world,” says Emilie Mossman, Donor Relations Manager. “Donors are helping to create special life-long memories for children and their families that shines the light of hope for a brighter future.”

If you can help support one of the remaining families and provide a special memory of hope and encouragement, please visit www.childrensfoundation.org to sign-up or call the Children’s Foundation Adopt-A-Family Team at 519-829-0855.
