WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) - On January 12, 2021, at approximately 6:55 a.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded along with Centre Wellington Fire and Rescue and Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services to a serious single motor vehicle collision on Highway 6, just south of Fergus.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a southbound sport utility vehicle (SUV) lost control, entered the west ditch and rolled over several times. The driver has been transported to a trauma centre in Hamilton with serious injuries.

OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) investigators are on scene and Highway 6 remains closed between the Fourth Line and the Sixth Line of Centre Wellington Township while officers continue to investigate. 

The cause of the collision is currently under investigation and Wellington County OPP is asking anyone that may have witnessed this collision or has dash cam video equipped in their vehicles to please call 1-888-310-1122.

The OPP is reporting early Tuesday morning that Highway 6 is currently closed in both directions following a two-car accident.

The highway is closed between the 6th Line and 4th Line, just south of Fergus near Ennotville

"OPP are on the scene of a serious MVC involving two motor vehicles just south of Fergus. Hwy 6 is closed at the 4th and 6th Lines. OPP are asking motorists to avoid the area. Witnesses are asked to call 1-888-310-1122," said a tweet posted by OPP West Region shortly after 7 a.m.
