On Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019 at 4 p.m., the Guelph Youth Dance Company and Concorde String Ensemble will be dazzling their River Run Centre audience with fiery bow work, warm string sounds and stunning choreography.

Come enjoy music by Granados, Albeníz, García, Boccherini, Vivaldi, J.S. Bach, and more, along with inspiring dance choreography. “These young artists are a true inspiration—they are dynamic, dedicated and love what they do. They will steal your heart!” says artistic director Paule Barsalou.

The Spain Tour ensemble includes 30 string players and 20 dancers, ages 12 to 18. These students have been studying music or dance for at least eight years, and are outstanding ambassadors for the Guelph community. Previous tour ensembles have toured throughout Canada, the USA, as well as China and Poland. Their performances are filled with youthful energy and profound emotion which thrills audiences.

During their trip to Spain, they will perform four to five concerts in Barcelona, Madrid and Valencìa. They will also collaborate with groups of young musicians and dancers in each city by socializing, rehearsing, and performing with them.

This will be a life-changing experience for these young people which will have ripple effects not only in their own lives, but also in their schools and community. The tour, organized by Culture Path, will go from March 6 -18, 2019.

“This is a trip of a lifetime for these young people,” says Paule Barsalou. “Not only will they experience the intensity of a professional tour, but they will also build new friendships with Spanish youth which will last them a lifetime, and open new doors for them in the future.”

Tickets are available at the River Run Centre box office:

$25 for adults, $15 for students, EyeGo $5. 519-763-3000 online

Proceeds from the concert will go to offset the cost of the tour. The group is now involved in a fundraising campaign to keep costs as low as possible for the participants’ families. To donate, please go to our website and select: Spain Tour.

The Guelph Youth Dance Company was formed in 2008, by Janet Johnson and Catrina von Radecki as a means of further celebrating, enhancing, and training young dancers.

In recent years they have performed at DanceOntario Weekend, Harbourfront Centre, Art Harvest, Guelph Dance Festival, River Run Centre, and have participated in a summer residency with Tara Luz Danse in Ottawa, a week-long exchange in Moncton New Brunswick, a 10 day tour throughout China, an exchange with the Halifax Young Company through Experiences Canada, 7 Linamar for the performing arts performances at the River Run Centre just to name a few opportunities!

In order to build relationships with other creative youth in our community, we have built regular partnerships with the Suzuki String School, Season Singers and Swansea School of Dance.
