Visitors to the city will soon have one fewer option for accommodation. Holiday Inn Guelph Hotel & Conference Centre is set to close next month.
A representative of InnVest Hotels, who said they could not be identified because they don't have authority to speak with media, stated the Scottsdale Drive hotel’s final day of operation will be Aug. 17 – a date confirmed by employees at the location when contacted by phone.
There had been rumblings within the community that the hotel would be closing.
InnVest Hotels owns numerous branded hotels, including the Holiday Inn at 601 Scottsdale Dr. – located on the northwest corner with Stone Road, across from Stone Road Mall – with 84 locations throughout the country, states the company website.
The hotel’s online booking system indicates the last available day to rent a room is Aug. 15. It notes the facility currently offers 136 guest rooms, as well as a variety of amenities.
Numerous attempts for comment from InnVest Hotels were unsuccessful.
The representative who spoke with GuelphToday said efforts will be made to place employees in other hotels within the company, but given the impact of the pandemic, permanent layoffs are expected.
It is not known at this time what the future use of the location will be.
