Innovation Guelph appoints new executive director

Innovation Guelph has announced the selection of Anne Toner Fung as its new executive director. The selection was made after an extensive regional search and hiring process. Toner Fung will join Innovation Guelph in her official capacity on Jan. 3, 2017.

"The Innovation Guelph board and hiring committee are very pleased with the decision to appoint Anne Toner Fung (right) as the organization's new executive director," said Brian Cowan, chair of the Innovation Guelph Board of Directors. "Not only will Anne bring fresh leadership to IG, her extensive and well-rounded perspective and experience – both in Nova Scotia and locally – will bring a unifying vision to the organization.”

A lifelong champion of entrepreneurship and an engaged economic empowerment leader, Toner Fung’s experience includes more than 20 years of business and organizational development in the private and not-for-profit sectors.

Toner Fung has served as a management executive for multiple organizations, including the Investor’s Group; Baston, Barnett & Associates; Adao Institute; and the Renascent Foundation, among others.

Further, she has developed, delivered and led the execution of entrepreneurship, social enterprise and women’s leadership programming in Atlantic Canada through St. Francis Xavier University and the StFX Enterprise Development Centre.

Prior to this appointment, Toner Fung worked as an independent consultant focused on helping SMEs accelerate growth and overcome operational challenges.

She also currently serves as Chair - Curriculum Committee for Leadership Waterloo Region, Executive Board Member for Hospice Waterloo Region, Advisory Council Member for YMCA of Cambridge and Kitchener-Waterloo, and as a Mentor for the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre. Toner Fung is a certified financial planner, certified human resources leader, and holds an MBA from Queen’s University.

“I’d been following Innovation Guelph’s development for some time, and was drawn to the organization’s holistic approach to building a sustainable economic ecosystem through its programming and initiatives,” said Toner Fung.

“The organization has a committed team of staff and mentors, as well as an incredible board with significant depth of experience. I’m excited to learn from everyone who connects with, supports and is impacted by Innovation Guelph to develop emergent strategies and pursue opportunities that continue to move the organization forward.”
