Firefighters in Guelph took to the Stone Road Mall on the weekend to sell their 2018 calendar in support of local hospitals.

Regan Stocco, secretary for the Guelph Firefighters Benevolent Foundation, said the calendar is made available every two years and he hopes to have them all sold before Christmas.

The price has been reduced for this edition of the calendar.

“We have done one for $20 and two for $30 in the past, but (this year) we just went $15 across the board,” he said.

A lot of work goes into the making of the calendar, said Stocco, making it difficult to do every year.

The process began in the winter to organize the photo shoots with AWB Photography, the graphic design work and eventual printing, said Stocco.

Last month the calendar was launched during a celebration at Stampede Ranch.

Proceeds form the sale of the calendars will go to Guelph General Hospital and Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus.

The foundation conducts other fund raisers throughout the year, including baseball and golf tournaments, poker nights and 50/50 draws at Guelph Storm games.

Stocco said the calendar, which also includes one woman firefighter, is more reserved than in some previous years.

“We are doing it in good taste and getting the word out that it’s for charity and everyone volunteers,” said Stocco.

Firefighters will once again sell the calendars at the Stone Road Mall on Dec. 16 and 17, but in the meantime they can be found at the Indigo book store or Midnight Sun Tanning on Stone Rd.
