Flight Lieutenant, Distinguished Flying Cross (1943), Royal Air Force 35 Squadron, Pathfinder Force, WWII RCAF (1940-1945), P.O.W. (1943-1945)

Professor, Land Resource Science, University of Guelph (1949-1985)

Born on September 27, 1920, in St. Boniface, Manitoba, eldest son of Amos and Alice Lane. Passed away peacefully in his 96th year surrounded by his loving family at the Guelph General Hospital on Tuesday, June 28, 2016. Cherished husband of the late Celestine Rose (Fantinato) Lane. Dear father of Thomas Jr. of Guelph, Mary of Stoney Creek, James and his wife Cheryl of Guelph and Carolyn and her husband Christopher Dodd of Richmond Hill. Beloved grandfather of Cory, Christian and his wife Sabrina, Tanner and Logan. Dear brother of Edna and Muriel, and the late Arthur, Douglas and Phyllis. Son-in-law of the late Liberale and Maria Fantinato. Brother-in-law of Carmel, Molly, Rita (deceased), Lena and Louis. Special thanks to the staff at Arbour Trails for their kindness during the past few years.

Friends are invited to the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph, on Saturday, July 2, 2016 for visitation from 9:30 -11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 11 a.m. Entombment, Our Lady Immaculate Mausoleum, Marymount Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the St. Joseph’s Health Centre Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
