The University of Guelph is hosting a free 2-day Writer’s Workshop this Thursday and Friday.
WriterWorkshop
The 2-day workshop is being hosted by the University of Guelph.

Dr. Jodie Salter, Writing Specialist at the University of Guelph’s McLaughlin Library is organizing the event. Dr. Salter said this is her fifth year organizing, and the event has been running for the last six years.

“The Writers Workshop hosts workshops on a variety of topics, including creative writing, blogging, social media and scientific writing,” said Salter.

Last year there were 700 participants, mostly from Guelph and surrounding areas. Dr. Salter was able to track last year where participants were coming from, and she noted visitors attending from as far as Montreal and Thunder Bay.

The event is open to members of the community and beyond, and there is no fee for registering. Event-goers can register for just one workshop, or as many that interest them.

Each workshop is either 90 minutes or three hours, and will provide interactive and hands-on strategies to improve writing skills.

A few of the most popular workshops have been filling up fast - with some already full to capacity. Most still have space left for interested participants. Just a few of the workshops that still have available seats include:

  • Grow Your Audience with a Stellar E-Newsletter
  • Handmaking Books
  • Elephants in the Living Room and Skeletons in the Closet: Writing About Family
  • Getting Fresh with Twitter
  • Publish or Perish: Strategies for Publishing Scientific Papers

More information is available at the event website, including information about the event, parking and accessibility. All of the workshops will be held at the University of Guelph, McLaughlin Library, 3rd floor.

To register for one or more of the workshops available, visit the event registration form. You can also e-mail the event organizer at [email protected].
