The Guelph Public Library is offering special solar viewing glasses to help get a better view of Monday's solar eclipse.

The 1,000 pairs of glasses are available for free at all branches while supplies last.

"This is a sight in the sky that you do not want to miss! Guelph will see a partial eclipse starting at 1:40 p.m., in which the moon will start to cover only a portion of the sun. The maximum partial eclipse will be at 2:32 p.m. and will end by 3:50 p.m.," said a library news release.

"It is dangerous to look directly at the sun without proper eye protection during this time so you will need to wear special solar eclipse glasses as regular sunglasses will not protect your eye’s retinas."

The free glasses were available starting Wednesday morning.

"These solar eclipse glasses are not a toy and children should only use with adult supervision. They must be inspected each time before use and should not be used if they are damaged, torn, punctured, or separated from the frame in any way. It is not recommended to use them with other optical devices. Full user instructions are available on all of the solar glasses being handed out."
