Starting Monday, October 29, the City of Guelph is making adjustments to its fall recreational swim schedule.

Daytime aquafit classes and fitness swims are temporarily unavailable at Centennial Pool due to a shortage of daytime lifeguards. The City continues to offer these programs at the West End Community Centre and Victoria Road Recreation Centre, and expects to resume these programs at Centennial Pool in the new year.

There are no changes to swimming lessons, and public swims are not affected.

“We have a shortage of available daytime lifeguards right now, and we need to move them around our facilities so we can continue to deliver safe aquatic programs to our community,” says Heather Flaherty, general manager of Parks and Recreation. “We apologize to our Centennial Pool users and hope they understand that their safety is our top concern.”

To deliver its aquatics program—recreational swims, lessons, aquafit classes, lifesaving and leadership programs, first aid, and rentals—the City needs daytime, evening, and weekend lifeguards and swim instructors to be available to staff and supervise pools.
