High school students returning to school this September in the Wellington Catholic District School Board will be taught using a quadmester system.

That means for the students will be taught two courses (one in the morning, one in the afternoon) for 9.5 weeks, then switch to two new courses (one in the morning, one in the afternoon) for the next 9.5 weeks to complete the first semester. The second semester will feature the same system featuring four new courses.

"This model breaks the four courses into two terms of two courses each. It is a condensed model of learning," says the updated back-to-school plan on the WCDSB web site.

The plan limits the number of students that have contact with one another at school in each term, the board says, limiting cohort contact.

Lunches will be staggered or scheduled to be held in the period one or two classroom. Movement and washroom breaks will be included in the schedule periods.

Students choosing to learn remotely will learn through either E-learning courses, alternative education E-learning (students may eligible to enroll in an on-line learning model with a centrally assigned teacher) or through TVO Independent Learning Centre (ILC).

Students learning remotely who choose to return to school can do so, but only at the end of a semester.
