TORONTO – Congratulations to William (Trevor) Martin of Guelph, who won a secondary prize of $25,000 a year for life from the Apr. 27, 2017 Daily Grand draw. Trevor opted for the lump sum of $500,000.
“It was my regular retailer that introduced me to Daily Grand, so I had to give it a try,” explained Trevor while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings. “My wife and I followed our usual routine, checking our numbers from OLG.ca. That’s when we realized only one number was missing, so I knew we must have won something,” shared the 73-year-old great grandfather.
Trevor took the winning ticket to the store to have it validated. “When the employee handed me the validation slip, I thought I won $25,000 and was so happy!” But Trevor was about to get even better news. “The retailer said, ‘Take a closer look. It’s $25,000 a year for life!’ That’s when the nerves hit me, and I couldn’t stop shaking,” laughed Trevor.
Trevor opted for the $500,000 payout so he can share with his family and take his wife of 40 years on a much-anticipated train trip through the Rockies.
“I can’t wait to see the reaction on my daughters faces when they each get their monetary gift!” concluded Trevor.
Daily Grand is Canada’s newest national lottery. At $3 per play, the grand prize is $1,000 a day for the life of the winner who matches five main numbers plus the Grand Number.
The second prize is $25,000 a year for the life of the winner who matches only the five main numbers. The odds of winning the grand prize are approximately 1 in 13.34 million and the overall odds of winning a prize are approximately 1 in 6.8.
The winning ticket was purchased at Little Short Stop Store on Silvercreek Parkway in Guelph.
