From May 13 - 18, five music groups from the Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute (GCVI) and one group from Centennial competed in the Musicfest Canada Nationals in Ottawa. The Nationals brings together the premiere school music groups from across the country. Groups qualify for Nationals through regional competitions held across Canada.

Centennial CVI qualified their Symphonic Winds for the second year in a row. The group performed very well and was awarded the National Silver Medal for the second year in a row.

GCVI qualified five groups and were only one of two schools in all of Canada with groups qualified in all four disciplines of Musicfest Canada (concert band, jazz band, chorale, and orchestra/strings). The GCVI Jr. Symphonic Band, Sr. Symphonic Band, Stage Band, and Chamber Choir were all awarded the National Silver Medal for their performances. The GCVI String Ensemble is a new group to GCVI and qualified for Musicfest Canada Nationals for the very first time this year. They group performed brilliantly at Nationals and came home with the National Gold Medal. This is the highest award that can be given to a music ensemble in Canada. This is truly an amazing accomplishment especially in their very first attempt.

These five medals give GCVI a total of 24 national medals in the last eight years, including three national gold medals (Sr. Symphonic Band 2013, Chamber Choir 2016, String Ensemble 2019).
