Local tattoo artist contributes some fine ink for a fine cause

'It was overwhelming in the best possible way,' says tattoo artist Allie Charbonneu of doing 14 pieces in one day

There was plenty of ink being done for a good cause Wednesday at a Downtown Guelph tattoo shop.

Tattoo artist Allie Charbonneau of Modern Addiction Tattoos on Woolwich Street did 14 separate pieces that day, raising $1,225 for a Habitat For Humanity women’s build that is starting next month in Guelph.

“Oh man, it was good,” Charbonneau said of the event. “Not too shabby. It was a little exhausting, but it went well.

“It feels nice. I’m really stoked on how many people came out. It was overwhelming in the best possible way.”

Most of the people who booked in Wednesday knew the money was going to a charitable cause so scheduled their work for that day, said Charbonneau, who has been a tattoo artist for five years.

Her work can be seen on the Instagram account “alliecharbz”.

Charbonneau knows several people at Wellington Brewery, who run the annual Queen of Craft event that helps raise funds for Guelph-Wellington Women In Crisis. Participants in that event had already planned to put in a day’s work on the Habitat project.

In discussion with Wellington Brewery event coordinator Karyn Bascorial about how Charbbonneau’s talents could be used for a worthy cause they came up with the idea of a day where all the money she raised would go to the Habitat For Humanity build.

Bascorial runs the Queen of Craft women's craft beer event and they had already connected to work on the Habitat women’s build.

“She tattooed 14 people yesterday, which is quite a bit for a tattoo artist to do in one day,” said Bascorial. “She was pretty amazing.”

Charbonneau said it was a great way to put her talents to use for a charitable cause.

“I’m just so busy and would love to have time to volunteer and do extra things on the side, but I just don’t,” she said.

“I figured I would be working anyway today, so taking one extra day out of making money to help other people is a way I can contribute without being too overwhelmed.”
