Sue Smith, 2017 Women of Distinction Honorary Chair, will be hosting a private reception at the Guelph Y with these 30 honourees. The private reception will give the 30 honourees an opportunity to meet, network, and share their inspiring stories with one another.

The Guelph Y invites the community to learn more about these 30 extraordinary women on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the 22nd Annual Women of DistinctionTM Fundraising Gala, which will take place at the River Run Centre from 6:30 – 10 p.m.

Tickets for the gala are now available in person at member services at the Guelph Y (130 Woodland Glen Dr.) or online at guelphy.org. The night will include a cocktail reception, an awards ceremony, and a dessert reception.

The honourees represent a wide variety of fields from Arts and Culture; Community Champion; Education, Training and Mentorship; Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Health, Wellness and Fitness; Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM); Trades and Labour; and Young Woman of Distinction.

Canada’s 150th Community Builder is a special category that has also been added this year.

The Guelph Y received an overwhelming number of nominations this year for so many outstanding leaders and the selection committee chose these 30 inspirational stories to be shared with the community.

Rather than recognizing a recipient for each category, the focus of the gala will be to share the stories of these 30 pioneers and role models. There will also be several awards including two Lifetime Achievement Awards and the Turning Point Award.

Geoff Vogt, Chief Executive Officer at the YMCA-YWCA of Guelph discusses the importance of the fundraising gala, “Unfortunately there is still a barrier in our community, in our workplace, and in our society.

The Guelph Y’s Women of DistinctionTM Fundraising Gala is not only important to our organization but also to the community. We need to continue to celebrate and empower women who inspire us every single day” says Vogt.

The Guelph Y would like to thank the Women of DistinctionTM sponsors for supporting and empowering the women in our community.

A special thank you to Presenting Sponsors, McNeil Consumer Healthcare, the University of Guelph, and CIBC for your support and for celebrating the achievements of outstanding women in Guelph and Wellington County.
