The City of Guelph is pleased to announce Tara Baker will lead the organization’s financial management as general manager of the Finance department and chief financial officer (CFO)/treasurer.

“Tara’s a skilled financial strategist and an engaged manager,” says Mark Amorosi, the City’s deputy CAO of Corporate Services. “I have great confidence that she will provide strong leadership and continue to strengthen the City’s solid financial foundation.”

Along with the internal auditor and City solicitor, the CFO serves as a key advisor to the Executive Team, providing strategic financial advice and counsel.

In this role, Baker will also carry out the statutory duties of treasurer, as required by the Municipal Act.

“I’m thrilled we have Tara landing this position, as Council has always been impressed with her leadership and professionalism,” says Mayor Cam Guthrie. “She’s willing to tell it like it is, and give us her opinions on our City’s financial management that Council and citizens need to hear.”

Baker, a chartered professional accountant, has been with the City since 2011. For the past three years she was the manager of Financial Reporting and Accounting, and was appointed acting treasurer in March.

She holds a bachelor of commerce from McMaster University.

James Krauter will continue acting in this role until Baker returns from maternity leave next year.
