Love Dove Grey and Baby Blue? Want themed baby bedding sets? Sweet Kyla has that covered (2 photos)

For forty years, Sweet Kyla has designed and created Canadian-made high-quality nursery bedding for families across Canada

Online retailer Sweet Kyla has established its brand as a one-stop shop for parents looking to decorate their nursery with the finest details.

Sweet Kyla offers everything from a simple crib sheet in colours like Dove Grey and Baby Blue, to themed baby bedding sets, toy and clothes hampers, change pad covers, and matching decor.

For consumers purchasing the product online across North America, one small detail may be missed in the fine print — Sweet Kyla is a business based out of Guelph, and is invested and involved in the community it’s based out of.

In May 2016 Lynda Murray and Pamela D’Ettorre purchased the Sweet Kyla brand, moving their factory from Kitchener to Guelph, where both women live and have raised their families.

The two friends had dreamed of operating a business, and chose to take the leap together, collaborating in their respective talents and professional backgrounds.

“Pamela has an extensive background in fashion design, fabric, and textiles, and is an advocate for sustainable fashion. I have an extensive background in sales and marketing — including consumer package goods, retail and the environment. We combine the perfect partnership,” said Murray.

All products are hand-made and designed in a Guelph factory, located at 79 Regal Road. The location also includes a small show room, however consumers can also request free fabric swatches to be delivered to their doorstep.

The business is an online retailer, selling their product through their website SweetKyla.com.

“Guelph is our hometown — we love the community.  It's very supportive of business and entrepreneurs and has a vibrant creative arts scene,” said Murray.

The owners felt it was important to move the production from Kitchener to Guelph, to maintain their local roots and support the community they have both raised their own families in.

Murray said having a business that is 100 per cent Canadian made, designed, and produced is important to parents looking to design a nursery, and important to her as a Canadian entrepreneur.

Other details about Sweet Kyla that makes the business stand out include: 95 per cent of their textiles are used in production, and the minimal scraps produced are then donated to volunteers who use them to create cat products for animal shelters.

The company also donates products to The Guatemala Healing Hands Foundation, as well as to local hospitals and children’s programs.

Both Murray and D’Ettorre are proud to be local female entrepreneurs, and feel that their experience as mothers helps them to understand the needs and wants of new moms designing a space for their baby.

Both women seek to help and encourage other female entrepreneurs to fight for their dreams and use their expertise to shape their business.

“Guelph is a community that supports and encourages female entrepreneurs,” said Murray, noting the Rhyze Project, the Chamber of Commerce, and Mompreneurs.
