Man airlifted to hospital after falling into Elora Gorge

Police say three friends were trespassing in park when one of them fell

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - At approximately 6 p.m. on March 18, 2018 Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an injured person occurrence on Middlebrook Road, Elora. Initial reports indicated that an 18-year-old Grand Valley man fell into the Grand River from the Elora Gorge.

OPP as well as Centre Wellington Fire Rescue (CWFD) and Guelph-Wellington Paramedics Service responded.

Investigation revealed that the injured male was trespassing in the Elora Gorge Conservation Area with two others males. He lost his grip while hanging from a truss bridge and fell about 40' to the ice shelf below, narrowly avoiding the rushing water. CWFD extricated him into paramedics care and he was air lifted to a trauma centre with non-life threatening injuries.

All thee males received trespass tickets.
