Man charged with murder at VIA Rail station appears in bail court

Jordan Langelier remains in custody and will appear in court on Jan. 21 via video

A 21-year-old man arrested and charged with second-degree murder Wednesday night appeared in court Thursday at noon.

Jordan Langelier, dressed in a white hoodie, sporting a beard and black hair down to his ears, remained calm in the Wyndham Street courthouse.

The judge granted the request of Langelier’s defence counsel to move the bail hearing to Jan. 21 on video in order for Langelier to make a legal aid application.

Due to the nature of the offence that falls under section 469 of the criminal code under 515(11), a publication ban prevents media from publishing any evidence presented in court.

Langelier was arrested on the scene after 63-year-old security guard Mario Ruffolo died Wednesday night following an incident at the VIA Rail building at Guelph Central Station in Downtown Guelph.

Cst. Kyle Grant of the Guelph Police Service said that police responded to a call about a disturbance where an adult male was being assaulted behind the rail station at 8:47 p.m.

"The 63-year-old male was working as a security guard at the train station and was located on-scene with life-threatening injuries," Grant said. "He was transported to Guelph General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Det. Cst. Brandon Mackenzie at 519-824-1212, ext. 7202, contact police through CrimeStoppers or leave an anonymous tip on the Guelph Police website. www.csgw.tips.
