A Guelph man was arrested after a knife was reportedly pulled Wednesday afternoon on a transit driver.

Guelph police report that approximately 3:40 p.m. police were dispatched to the area of Elmira Road North and Massey Road. A man had boarded a Guelph Transit bus and presented a bus pass the driver believed was fake.

The driver seized the pass and asked the male to leave the bus and a struggle ensued, during which the man brandished a hunting-style knife. The man was removed from the bus with the assistance of a passenger and fled on foot. The driver was not physically injured.

With assistance from the Guelph police canine unit the man was located a short time later and arrested. A knife was recovered at that time.

A 37-year-old is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and assault with a weapon. He was held for a bail hearing Thursday.
