Mazda lands in ditch. Police smell alcohol on driver's breath

GUELPH-ERAMOSA TOWNSHIP, ON - On June 17, 2016 at approximately 11:48 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Wellington Road 44 south of Highway 7 in Guelph-Eramosa Township.

Officers attended the scene and spoke with witnesses and the driver of the 2010 Mazda that was well into the ditch.

While speaking with the driver police detected the odour of alcohol on his breath. The male confirmed that he had consumed alcohol earlier. 

An Approved Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.

29-year-old Matthew Emmerson of Guelph-Eramosa Township has been charged with over 80 Mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

He is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on July 5, 2016 to answer to the charge.
