Meet Guelph's New Year's Baby

Bode Finn Thomann is Guelph General Hospital's first delivery of 2017

Welcome to the world Bode Finn Thomann.

Guelph General Hospital's New Year's baby for 2017 arrived at 12:53 a.m. on New Year's Day, weighing in at 7 pounds 8 oz.

Proud parents are Meredith and Christian Thomann of Guelph. Bode is a little brother to Ryan, 2.

Ryan has taken to calling his new brother "Bobby."

"He wasn't due until next Saturday, so he was a little bit of an early arrival," mom Meredith said of Bode, a name chosen by the couple because they liked it and it was "short and sweet."

The Thomanns were home enjoying a quiet New Year's eve with some extended family members when Meredith went into labour.

With their regular doctor not available, Bode was delivered by Dr. Valerie Mueller without incident.

They already knew they were having a boy.

"We were joking around, saying he was going to be the first baby of the new year," Christian said.

"But we didn't think it would happen," Meredith said.

Meredith is a veterinarian at Caledon Mountain Veterinary Hospital and Christian is an accountant with the provincial government.

The two met in 2001 when they were undergraduates at the University of Guelph and were both living in Lambton Hall residence.
