Melku Gebrekristos wanted to give back to an organization that was a great help to her and her family when they came to Canada from Eritrea in 2002.

The Guelph entrepreneur will be doing that Saturday at the Guelph Farmers' Market, selling her handmade frozen fruit pops and donating all the proceeds to the Children's Foundation of Guelph Wellington.

"These people helped me a lot when we came here, this is just a way of giving back," said Gebrekristos.

"My three children were active in sports: swimming, basketball, soccer, dancing ... all kinds of things and they helped make all that possible.

The frozen treats come in three flavours: strawberry, blueberry and mango. The are all natural, sweetened with maple syrup. They sell for $3 each.

Gebrekristos owns Laza Food & Beverage on Ontario Street, where the popsicles are being made.

"We've been making them all week, me and my daughter," Gebrekristos said. "We've made 700. Only 300 more to make," she said with a laugh Thursday evening.

She will deliver a box of 24 to any businesses wishing to purchase them.
