Motorcyclist airlifted after hitting pole

An SUV passenger also suffered injuries in the collision

On Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at approximately 12:58 p.m., a 1983 Yamaha motorcycle (operated by a 30-year-old Guelph man) was travelling southbound on Edinburgh Road North, south of Speedvale Avenue West. 

As the motorcycle passed the driveway to St. Joseph’s Hospital, it came into contact with a southbound 2007 Honda CRV (operated by a 42-year-old Guelph man) and left the roadway striking a wooden utility pole. 

The driver of the motorcycle was ejected and suffered extensive injuries. He was transported to Guelph General Hospital by Guelph Wellington Paramedics. 

He has subsequently been transferred, by ORNGE Air Ambulance, to the Regional Trauma Unit at the Hamilton General Hospital. Where he remains in Critical, but stable, condition at the time of this release. 

The 36-year-old female passenger in the Honda CRV was transported to Guelph General Hospital for treatment of cuts received when the passenger side window of the car was smashed during the collision. 

A Collision Reconstruction Team has been assigned to this ongoing investigation. The Guelph Police are seeking witnesses to this collision.
