A local New Democratic Party candidate for the upcoming provincial election is expected to be announced very soon, says the president of the party’s local riding association.

Details about the local nomination meeting will be forthcoming, said Andrew Johnson, local NDP riding association president.

“Our riding association anticipates hosting a nomination meeting shortly where we expect to introduce our local candidate for the spring election campaign,” said Johnson.

So far, two people have confirmed they are seeking the local Ontario PC nomination, Ray Ferraro and Patrick Meyers.

Local PC riding association president Robert Coole recently told GuelphToday there are three people currently vying to be the local candidate for that party and he expects that candidate to be named in early April.

The Liberal Party of Ontario has named Sly Castaldi as its local candidate in the June 7 election.

Mike Schriener, leader of the Green party of Ontario, will once again seek Guelph’s seat in the provincial legislature, after placing third in the 2014 contest.

The NDP, Liberals and Green Party will meet election day with the same leaders they had in 2014, while the Ontario PCs will be the first election to test new party leader Doug Ford.
