A city neighbourhood group is appealing the approval of an infill development on Beechwood Avenue.

On Jan. 28 council approved a 22-townhome development planned for 89 Beechwood Ave., the former home of the Guelph Optimist Club located just north of Waterloo Avenue.

In a last-ditch attempt to have the development stopped or downsized, the Beechwood-Chadwick-Hearn Neighbourhood Association has appealed council's approval to the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal, the provincial body that replaced the Ontario Municipal Board last year.

The neighbourhood association has been fighting the proposal for almost two years.

The builder, Granite Homes, has made several adjustments to the original proposal but the neighbourhood group still feels it is too big, will create traffic issues and obscures the street view to the adjoining park.

The neighbourhood group wants a maximum of 17 units on the site.
