Earlier this year Diane Finoro launched a women’s personal growth book club for women to gather, discuss good books, and form friendships with other like-minded women.

The Personal Growth Book Club meets monthly at a Downtown cafe to discuss the book and network with local like-minded women. In November the women met at the Starberry Cafe, but the location changes each month.

“Any woman can join the group. It’s a way of fostering discussion and friendship,” said Finoro.

Finoro is the Branch Director of Happy Healthy Women Guelph, a local networking collective that organizes events for women in business.

“I was looking for professional and personal networking events, but there was no Guelph branch. I had initially planned to travel, but then I thought how amazing Guelph is and how amazing the women are here in Guelph, so I thought I would start a branch here,” she shared.

The book club is one of the events that is run through Happy Healthy Women Guelph. However, there is no required membership fee to join the event or any other events through the networking group.

“It’s a way to bring like-minded women together, we always invite people to come whether they read the book or not,” said Finoro

She also said that an average of six women have attended the book club each month since its inception in May 2017. Some of the women who attend are business owners, and others are new to the area, or simply looking to connect with other women.

“I consider these women my friends,” Finoro said.

In previous months the book club has read The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and The Art of Happiness by The Dalai Lama.

The book club is taking a break for the month of December, and will start again in January. Finoro said she has some books planned to study, but also welcomes to suggestions.
