Guelph’s first ever skatepark will be open for business, and skateboards, on Thursday.

An official ribbon-cutting ceremony involving Mayor Cam Guthrie, city staff and representatives from the company that built the facility will take place at 4:15 p.m. Thursday.

After the official ceremony the park will be open to the public from dawn until dusk.

Silvercreek Skatepark is located at 142 Edinburgh Rd. S., on the southwest corner of Edinburgh Road and Wellington Street, in the park beside the volleyball court.

“The Silvercreek Skatepark combines the best of transition/bowl features (think swimming pool made for skateboarding) with banks, rails, stairs and ledges that riders crave in the streets,” says a city news release.

“The skatepark’s location within a park setting allows for great sightlines, includes shaded areas and is in a central location on a major transportation/bus route that allows for equitable access across the community.”

The park came in on its $905,510 budget.
