New look Festival Italiano happens this weekend

The revamped Festival Italiano takes place on Ferguson Street this weekend.

The popular grease pole competition takes place on Saturday night at 6 p.m. this year, not the usual Sunday afternoon.

There will also be no midway this year.

A new date and a new look, plus lots of old favourites, will take place starting Friday night with food, a beer tent and live entertainment, plus busking on Ferguson Street.

The grape stomping competition happens at 8:30 p.m. Friday and the spaghetti eating contest at 11 p.m.

Saturday featres a bocce tournament for children at 1 p.m., food and beverages throughout the afternoon, grease pole at 6 p.m., grape stomping competition at 8:30 p.m. and spaghetti eating contest at 11 p.m.

On Sunday the men's bocce tournament happens Sunday morning starting at 9 a.m., festival mass happens at 11 a.m., food, beverages and entertainment throughout the afternoon, the adult cheese roll competition at 3 p.m. and children's ice cream eating contest at 3:30 p.m.

A table top cultural display will be available all weekend in the Italian Canadian Club.
