Park Grocery Deli & Bar set to open Thursday on Woolwich Street

The Neighbourhood Group of Companies is set to open its newest restaurant, Park Grocery Deli & Bar, which includes a focus on giving back to the community.

The new restaurant opens Thursday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m.

The restaurant launched Neighborhood Club, a loyalty program that gives customers 5 per cent back on their spendings. The company then donates 5 per cent to their Neighborhood Good fund to support local community and environment initiatives.

“Our environment initiatives are super important in the way we run all our restaurants”, says Fountain Santos, manager of Park Grocery Deli & Bar, during an open house Monday.

“It's everything from the engineering of the menu. We reduce as little food waste as possible using all of the parts of the vegetable for example, the parts of the meat. Our take out containers are all compostable. We do a lot of repurposing. We didn't purchase any new furniture. It's all decor that's been repurposed.”

The restaurant is also carbon neutral.

Focusing on a sustainable future, the restaurant will use carbon offsets to utilize their renewable energy and generate less waste.

Located at 294 Woolwich St., Santos says it is sort of a look at the past, paying homage to the very first business that was here back in the late 1800s.

This location used to be home to With The Grain, a much-loved local restaurant that closed its doors early in 2018.

Park Grocery Deli & Bar is a combination of a mini grocery, a deli and a bar. It offers sandwiches and salads made from scratch and from local ingredients.

The bar offers a selection of local beers, ciders and wines with a program that showcases organic free trade coffee and teas along with artisan sodas and milkshakes.

“We believe that Park Grocery will be a great addition to the Guelph restaurant scene. I am particularly proud of our team's continued pursuit of incredible hospitality for our guests, each other and surrounding communities,” says Court Desautels, president of Park Grocery Deli & Bar, in news release.

“And now, with the development of our Neighbourhood Club and Neighbourhood Good initiatives we will be able to create an even greater impact for those who need it most. It’s an incredibly proud moment.”

Business hours are Monday to Friday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
