CAPACITY 3 GALLERY

The Capacity 3 Gallery is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibit Background Check by local artist Mel Gausden.
The exhibit will be on display at the Capacity 3 Gallery from July 8 to July 30, 2016 with a reception on Saturday, July 8 from 1-3 p.m., with the artist in attendance.
Background Check is an exhibition of light boxes containing small self-portrait paintings. In each work there is a conversation about identity and self through the medium of landscape.
Gausden challenges notions of landscape as scenery; just as the subjects are interacting with the landscape, the landscape is in turn interacting with the subject; neither are passive.
These works are small windows into the rawest ideas from which her work evolves; based on specific memories that have shaped her as a person and an artist.
The artist states “Within my work I use neon silhouettes and “instagram-esque” colour schemes to highlight the inherent distortion of our own personal narratives. In the end these narratives end up as hybrids, part reality and part dreamscape.”

The artist Mel Gausden was born in Guelph and grew up in rural southern Ontario, which has had an immense influence on her art.
She graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design with a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts in 2009 and has been creating art full time for the past seven years.
You can also see Gausden’s work at the annual Art on the Street event, July 16, Quebec Street from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
The Capacity 3 Gallery is located on the first floor of the Boarding House Arts Building, 6 Dublin St., Guelph. The hours are 12-5 Tuesday to Friday, and 9-3 on Saturdays.
