Officers cleared in Imperial Road SIU investigation, say police

Background

On April 22, 2015 at approximately 11 p.m., the Guelph Police became involved in an investigation on Imperial Road North involving an adult male.

During the course of the police investigation the male was arrested. While arresting the male a struggle ensued and as a result the male sustained an injury.

The male was transported to the Guelph General Hospital by ambulance, and was later released. On the evening of April 23, 2015, the male re-attended the hospital and underwent treatment for his injuries.

On September 23, 2015 the Guelph Police became aware of the injury to the male party and as a result notified the S.I.U., they at that time invoked their mandate to investigate the matter. 

Update

On July 18, 2016 the Guelph Police were notified by the S.I.U. Director that they have concluded their investigation.

In his closing report the S.I.U. Director notified the Guelph Police Chief, that there was no criminal wrongdoing committed on the part of the Guelph Police Officers who were involved in the April 22 incident.

The S.I.U. investigation into this matter is now considered closed.
