CITY OF GUELPH – On February 23, 2016 at approximately 2:33 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a 2014 Subaru being operated in an erratic manner on Speedvale Avenue near Edinburgh Avenue in the City of Guelph.

Police attempted to stop the motor vehicle by activating the emergency lights and sirens however; it did not stop immediately and continued to drive down a few more streets without slowing until it eventually pulled into a private driveway.

Officers spoke with the driver and detected the odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath.

Police also observed him to be unsteady on his feet as he exited his vehicle and walked towards the police cruiser. The male was arrested and taken to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.

36-year-old Joseph Duguay, of Guelph, has been charged with impaired driving and over 80 mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

He is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on March 8, 2016 to answer to the charges.
