One taken to hospital as fire strikes downtown apartment building

Firefighters are on the scene of a fire in the upper level at an apartment building at 2 Quebec Street in downtown Guelph

The fire is under control.

The building has been evacuated and one person has been transferred to hospital by Guelph-Wellington Emergency Medical Service.

There is no known cause at this time.

Fire officials are asking motorists to avoid the area between Quebec Street, Paisley Road and Norfolk Street. The area will be closed to traffic for about two hours.
