The University of Guelph campus will be overrun by some 20,000 visitors this weekend for this year’s instalment of the College Royal open house.

First observed in 1925, College Royal is North America’s oldest student-run free open house, attracting over 20,000 visitors a year.

The schedule for this year’s event features events for the whole family and, best of all, most events are free.

College Royal events run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 17 and 18 at various locations across the U of G campus. For more information and a full schedule of events, click here.

The Dairy Barn will be transformed into Old MacDonald’s Farm this weekend, with live animals and dairy cow showing at 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both days.

Johnston Green will be host to many events over the weekend, including a logging competition Sunday at 10 to 11:30 a.m. and a tug-of-war competition at 1 p.m.

Inflatables at University Centre and Peter Clark Hall will include obstacle courses, bounce houses and slides.

A pancake flip takes over the University Centre courtyard Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 To 11 a.m.

A dog show runs Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the main gym of the Athletics Centre. Not to be outdone, Rozanski Hall will feature a cat show in Room 101 Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 2 p.m.

Square dancing, a junior tractor rodeo and a chili coo koff are among the dozens of other events being held this weekend for the open house.

College Royal is offering a free smart phone app to keep track of dozens of events happening across 34 locations on campus this weekend, available on Apple’s App Store or Google play.
