NEWS RELEASE

CITY OF GUELPH

On Monday the City of Guelph received confirmation that the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) Local 231, the union representing Guelph’s part- and full-time paramedics, has filed for conciliation with the Ontario Ministry of Labour.

“Our paramedics play a vital role in ensuring the health and safety of our community and we are committed to reaching an agreement that is fair and recognizes their contributions,” said David Godwaldt, general manager Human Resources for the City. “As with all our employee groups, a negotiated settlement needs to be affordable and allow for greater efficiency in the delivery of valuable City services.”

The City and OPSEU will return to the collective bargaining table once a conciliator has been appointed by the Minister of Labour.

“Community safety is our first priority. Ambulance services will not be affected during negotiations,” added Godwaldt.

Meeting dates and regular updates will be posted online at guelph.ca/opseu.
