A host of employers with about 235 jobs that need filling will gather Tuesday at the Hanlon Convention Centre for a job fair.

The event runs from 1-5 p.m. at the 340 Woodlawn Road W. convention centre, behind the Goodwill Community Store near the intersection of the Hanlon Expressway.

The event is organized by the Workforce Planning Board of Waterloo, Wellington, Dufferin, and has a number of partners including the City of Guelph, the Manufacturing Innovation Network, and Second Chance Employment Services.

Carol Simpson is the agency’s executive director. She said Guelph is a good place for the unemployed to find work. There are hundreds of jobs available in the city. Simpson said 23 employers are registered to take part in the job fair, and will have tables at it.

“There are a number of manufacturers,” Simpson said. “Things like welders, assemblers, and engineering technologists and technicians are needed. There are also some financial and sales jobs. There are a good variety of jobs on offer.”

Local companies like Linamar, Randstad, Poly-Nova Technologies, Guelph Tool, and Cargill Meat Solutions have jobs available. Among the other positions available are truck drivers, machine operators, supervisors, labourers, material handlers, and quality control personnel.

The fair will be of interest to those looking for both entry level work or a professional level jobs, Simpson added.

“We expect to see a good variety of people there tomorrow, from people who have just left school, to people in the community who are currently unemployed, and older workers looking for employment,” she said.

She added that newcomers to Canada, including the recent Syrian refugees that have settled in Guelph, will find it a good employment resource.

With it’s lowest unemployment rate in Canada, and its strong manufacturing sector, Guelph remains one of the best places to find a job in the country.

“There are a lot of jobs available in Guelph,” Simpson added. “There are a lot of people out there who are currently hiring.”
