Police board has a new chair

At the Dec. 8, 2016 meeting of the Guelph Police Services Board, members elected Mr. Don Drone to serve as Chair for 2017. He became the Provincial Appointee to the Board in March 2015. 

Judy Sorbara, current Chair, will assume the role of Vice-Chair after serving as Chair since March 2011. Len Griffiths, the current Vice-Chair, served as Vice-Chair since January of 2012.

The police board is a five-member board: two are provincial appointments; one is appointed by city council and two are city council members.

Mr. Drone is the Executive Director of the Ontario Educational Services Corporation (OESC), a non-profit organization jointly owned by all School Boards in Ontario.

This organization serves all 72 school districts in providing innovative solutions to common budget items at a reasonable cost. 

He retired as Director of Education and Chief Executive Officer of the Wellington Catholic District School Board in August 2014 after 14 years as Director for the board and 47 years in the education field.

Mr. Drone has been the Chair for the English Catholic Council of Directors of Education and has a long standing history of chairing Boards and Committees, such as Council of Directors of Education for the Province of Ontario, the United Way Campaign for Guelph Wellington, the Guelph Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and the Environmental Advisory Committee for the City of Guelph.

The meeting schedule for the Guelph Police Services Board for the year 2017 will continue to be the third Thursday of each month commencing with an In Camera Meeting at 1 p.m. followed by a Public Meeting at 2:30 p.m., with the exception of August, which will have no meeting, and December, where the meeting will be held a week earlier to accommodate the holidays.

Meetings will be held at Guelph City Hall, 1 Carden Street, in Meeting Room C during the Police Headquarter renovation.
