City police say an investigation into a weekend collision involving damage to two police cruisers and minor injuries to an officer is complex.

The investigation into the Feb.18 collision is ongoing, said Const. Chris Probst, public information officer with Guelph Police Service.

"Due to the fact that the investigation is a lot more complex then is appears on the surface, police will not comment on charges or no charges at this time,” said Probst.

At the scene of the collision on Sunday, Sgt. Dave Caron told GuelphToday a call came in at 4:50 p.m. Sunday requesting police to check on the well being of a person.

The person was located on College Avenue near Gordon Street behind the wheel of a white Land Rover. After a brief chase with speeds up to 65 kilometres an hour, police attempted to remove her from the vehicle in the westbound lane of College at the entrance to the Hanlon Expressway.

When officers attempted removing the driver from the vehicle, she attempted to flee the scene, said Caron.

In the process, two police cruisers were struck and the driver and one officer were sent to hospital with minor injuries.

At the time, Caron said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the investigation.
