MAPLETON TOWNSHIP – On May 29, 2016 at approximately 3:40 a.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol when they observed a pick-up truck exit a commercial parking lot at a high rate of speed on Highway 6 at Wellington Road 109 in Mapleton Township.
Officers followed the vehicle for a short distance before conducting a traffic stop to check on the driver’s sobriety. A stale odour of alcohol was detected on the driver’s breath and he admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the evening.
An Approved Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.
His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.
20-year-old Jonathan Hunter of Guelph has been charged with over 80 mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada, Use Plates Not Authorized For Vehicle and Novice Driver – B.A.C. Above Zero contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
He is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on July 12, 2016 to answer to the charges.
