Police seek suspect in morning groping incident

WELLINGTON NORTH TOWNSHIP – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit is currently investigating a sexual assault occurrence and is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect.

On August 24, 2016 at approximately 5:23 a.m. the victim, an 89-year-old female was out for her morning walk on Birmingham Street East near Fergus Street North in Wellington North Township. 

She observed a young male sitting on a bench in front of the Presbyterian Church, smoking a cigarette. The victim acknowledged the male and proceeded to walk past him a few steps when he approached her from behind and groped her.

The victim yelled and the male ran away towards Fergus Street and was last seen headed south.

The male suspect is described as:

  • Approximately 5’10
  • Approximately 25 years of age
  • Fair skin
  • Light brown hair
  • Slim build
  • Wearing beige shorts and t-shirt

The victim was not physically injured in this incident.
