Police seek witnesses to fatal collision

The Wellington County OPP seeks witnesses to Saturday morning collision on Wellington County Road 124 and Township Road 1 in the Township of Guelph-Eramosa.

TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA – On June 18, 2016 at approximately 9:08 a.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call regarding a serious collision involving two vehicles on Wellington County Road 124 and Township Road 1 in the Township of Guelph-Eramosa.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a red Mini Cooper was travelling eastbound on County Road 124 followed by a second vehicle which was followed by a motorcycle. 

The red Mini Cooper made a left hand turn onto Township Road 1 as the motorcycle pulled out to pass and the vehicles collided. 

The male driver of the motorcycle was transported by land ambulance to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver was later pronounced deceased. His name will not be released until next of kin have been notified. The driver of the car was not injured.

Guelph-Wellington Emergency Services (EMS) and Wellington County Roads attended the scene.

The cause of the collision is currently being investigated by Technical Collision Investigators from the Wellington County OPP and OPP Highway Safety Division.  Wellington County Road 124 is closed between County Road 32 and Kossuth Road and is expected to remain closed for approximately 2-3 hours.
