Police zap driver after multiple cruisers stop fleeing SUV

Police say officers had to use a conductive energy weapon to safely arrest the man

On February 17, 2016 at 3:22 p.m., the Guelph Police received the report of a Chevrolet Trailblazer with a large tire strapped to its roof, driving erratically in the area of the Hanlon Expressway and Kortright Road.

Police located the vehicle driving southbound on the Hanlon and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

The vehicle increased its speed and failed to stop.

Multiple police cruisers were able to bring the vehicle to a stop near Maltby Road.

The male driver was not compliant and a brief struggle ensued leading to the police having to use a conductive energy weapon to safely arrest him.

He was taken to the Guelph General Hospital where he was subsequently formed under the Mental Health Act.

The 32-year-old Hanover male will be charged with the offences of dangerous driving and flight from police.
