Guelph Police are on scene in an industrial area of the city Saturday evening after a citizen called in an apparent lost or ditched handgun.
It's unclear if the pistol is genuine or a replica.
The call was made sometime after 2:35 p.m. after a Twitter user initially brought it to the attention of the Guelph Police Twitter account.
The black pistol with the name Glock on the handle was located near the dead end of Laird Road a few feet from the roadway. The citizen posted a photo of the handgun, which was missing its barrel, to Twitter.
The Guelph Police Twitter account asked the citizen to call it in directly to dispatch before Cam Guthrie, mayor of Guelph, responded by Twitter: "Yeah, that’s an immediate call to police for anything like that okay."
An officer with the Guelph Police Service arrived a short time after the tweets and was seen examining the item and walking a distance along the roadway and looking at the ground.
